Tesla vehicle metrics in Home Assistant

We bring available vehicle data into HA so you can view it in one place and use it in automations. Examples include battery level, estimated range, location, charging status and charging power. We check which metrics your vehicle and chosen integration support.

Automations for your car and home

We prepare rules that respond to your car’s status and, where supported, send commands to the vehicle. Together, we choose useful scenarios, such as coordinating charging or preparing the car before departure.

A dashboard for your Tesla in HA

We design a dashboard around the information you want to see: whether the car is home, its battery level and whether it is charging. The layout can suit a phone or a home panel, with history and charts where data is available.

Example automations

• The car arrives home: once HA detects arrival, it starts an agreed home routine, such as turning on driveway lights.
• The car leaves home: selected household functions respond to departure while taking other household members’ presence into account.
• Charging starts: display charging status, send a notification or adjust selected household devices.
• Charging finishes: send a notification and restore devices paused for charging.

These are possible design examples. We prepare the actual rules around your equipment and everyday routines.

The car charges while pool circulation waits

Suppose you want to pause pool circulation or another deferrable appliance while your Tesla charges at home.

1. Home Assistant detects that the Tesla is charging at home.
2. It checks whether pool circulation can be paused.
3. If circulation is running, it stops it and records that this automation paused it.
4. When charging finishes, it restores circulation if the current operating mode permits it and you have not intervened manually.

The design includes a maximum pause duration and behaviour when data is unavailable. The aim is to coordinate charging with household routines while preserving the pool’s required operation. Managing total household power also needs suitable measurements; the car’s charging status alone does not describe the entire house.

The appliance must be connected to HA and support appropriate control. Connecting the Tesla alone does not provide control over pool equipment.

What do you need?

• A working Home Assistant installation to connect the integration to.
• A Tesla vehicle and access to your Tesla account to authorise the connection.
• A device running Docker, such as a home server or suitable NAS. For the proposed setup, we prepare a container with the supporting service needed to connect Tesla and HA.
• Devices connected to HA if you also want to control lighting, pool circulation or other appliances.

We prepare the required container, its connection to Home Assistant and communication with the vehicle. We walk through the technical setup with you during installation and first check whether your equipment suits the proposed solution.

How will we work together?

We first review your Tesla, existing Home Assistant and Docker environment. We agree on metrics, dashboard layout and initial automations, then prepare the connection, validate the chosen scenarios and hand over configuration notes and maintenance guidance.

Before installation, we check supported functions, update frequency and operating requirements. Vehicle data may not update immediately, so the automations also account for an unresponsive vehicle or integration.
